The task

Background & Challenge:

Schöler Micke operates one of the highest-turnover e-commerce channels in table tennis and, at the same time, manages the global distribution of the andro® brand. The existing Shopware 5 system is a central element of the company’s day-to-day operations, but faces the typical challenges of an e-commerce infrastructure that has evolved over many years:

  • Stability during peak traffic: At the start of the season in autumn and spring, as well as during product launches (e.g. new andro® rubbers or blades), visitor numbers surge. Shop downtime or delays at checkout must be consistently prevented.
  • High data complexity: Thousands of product variants (combinations of rubber thicknesses, colours, grip shapes and assembly options) require fast and reliable filtering as well as error-free product listings.
  • Security and updates: Shopware 5 no longer receives regular feature updates. Consequently, security updates must be applied manually and outdated plugins must be continuously optimised to maintain the shop’s compliance and functionality.
  • Future-proofing: The Shopware 5 shop must be optimised and streamlined whilst it is live to ensure a smooth migration to the upcoming system at a later date.

We have taken over the technical support for the Schöler Micke online shop and are focusing on the key areas of stability, speed and preparing for the future architecture.

  • Proactive Support & System Maintenance
    Through continuous application monitoring, the prompt installation of critical security updates (security patches for Shopware 5) and rapid support in the event of errors, we ensure the day-to-day operation of the online shop.
  • Performance tuning for Shopware 5
    To maintain first-class loading times despite the vast range of product variants and data, we have carried out extensive optimisations:* Cleaning up and optimising the MySQL database structures to speed up complex search queries.* Efficient caching management to reduce the load on the web server during traffic peaks.* Code refactoring of outdated third-party plugins to prevent loading delays.
  • Usability & feature optimisations
    The existing online shop is continuously adapted to meet customers’ modern needs. This includes detailed improvements to the ordering process (checkout optimisation), improved handling of complex variant selections and optimisations to the filter logic.
  • Preparation for the relaunch
    In addition to day-to-day maintenance, we are already supporting Schöler Micke with the planning of the future relaunch.
